A Must See Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Reveal

It’s finally, mostly,  finished!! Hip hip hooray! It only took like eight months! Seriously, our kitchen renovation is finally finished, for the most part. There are still a few things that we would like to do eventually but they will take time… my bank account needs to recover! We will need to do a backsplash and add some chandeliers at some point, and I’d like to find an antique door for the pantry.  Luckily that list is short and I can honestly say that our kitchen feels and looks finished. So here it is! Drum roll in your mind please! Or out loud if you feel led! I know I’m blowing my imaginary trumpet!

Isn’t it beautiful! Look at that before and after! It has definitely been a transformation from the drab, dark, band-aid inspired kitchen it was before. Taking out the wall and creating an open concept has complete changed the feel of the kitchen! And the house for that matter! I am in love with our modern farm-y feel with the whites, greys, and natural weathered wood.

I love our table find! I was to the point where I was begging the hubs to figure out how to build our own farmhouse table that would fit the space just perfectly when we found this gem! I think he was more than willing to say yes when he saw he wouldn’t have to pretend to be a much better wood worker than he is! We went with a free standing bench instead of building one in for the freed that it provides. Plus, again, no building project involved! I love all the different textures and color contrasts that it provides.

What kind of “farmhouse” kitchen doesn’t have shiplap, right?!? We put shiplap up on the backside of the island and painted it the same color as our walls, Mega Greige. It is a pretty close match to our island cabinets and made an easy backing for the cabinets. We also custom built our own hood vent! I adore it! I’ll be posting about how we made it soon!

We absolutely love our kitchen and it has truly become the heart of our home! The table is big enough for everyone to sit at and I can be a part of everything while I’m preparing things. And the island is a dream for baking! It is so long! I think I can fit four or five cookie sheets on it and still have room for my mixer and supplies.

This process was daunting and at times felt like there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Completely gutting and renovating a kitchen is not as easy as it seems and while we all love Fixer Upper and it’s amazing transformations that seem to magically happen overnight the reality is that these things take time and money, and time! And more time! But it was oh so worth it to us!

I’ll also be posting a tutorial for our DIY industrial shelves soon. Check back soon or feel free to subscribe so that you don’t miss a thing!
